Fire extinguisher components and PASS

We are building a series of blogs to help you understand that complex-looking Fire preventions systems are not that complex. 

If you have read one of earlier blogs about RACE, we have talked about the last E which is Extinguish. And we have a similar rule for using the extinguisher which is P-A-S-S.

P – Pull the pin.

A – Aim at the base of the fire

S – Squeeze the lever

S – Sweep side to side.

But before we go into the details of how to use fire extinguisher lets understand the components of a fire extinguisher. 

So, in the first step we have to pull the pin from the fire extinguisher. You see all the fire extinguishers have a safety pin that we have remove before we can use the fire extinguisher.

And then we have to aim the nozzle of the fire extinguisher at the base of the fire.

Then squeeze the lever of the fire extinguisher.

Then sweep from side to side and make sure that the fire is extinguished.

So I hope you have an understanding of how to use a fire extinguisher if the need may arise.
