Cluster bus fire
A cluster bus fire incident occurred on Thursday morning in East Delhi’s Jagatpuri area, involving a low-floor cluster blue bus carrying around 50 passengers. The bus, which was on route 340 from Central Secretariat to Seemapuri, was completely gutted by flames. Fortunately, no casualties were reported due to the swift evacuation of all passengers by the driver and conductor. This incident underscores the urgent need for robust fire safety measures in public transportation and highlights how advanced fire monitoring systems, like IGNICOP® from Basic Elements, could have prevented the fire from escalating.
Delhi Bus Fire Incident: A Breakdown of What Happened
On Thursday at 9:48 am, a PCR call was received at the Jagatpuri police station reporting a Delhi bus fire incident involving a cluster bus near the A block bus stand. Upon arrival, authorities found a low-floor cluster blue bus engulfed in flames. Given that the bus was a CNG air-conditioned model, there was an increased risk of the fire spreading, prompting police to cordon off the area.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shahdara, Surendra Choudhary, stated, “The fire broke out in a blue colour cluster bus. Due to the vehicle’s CNG system, the potential for the fire to spread was significant. However, the immediate evacuation of approximately 40 passengers by the driver and conductor minimized risks.” Three fire tenders arrived promptly at the scene and managed to extinguish the fire before it could cause further damage or injuries.

Jagatpuri Bus Fire: What Caused It?
The fire in the cluster bus is believed to have started from an electrical short circuit in the air conditioning system, as reported by the Station Officer of Delhi Fire Services (DFS), Anoop Singh. “A call was received around 9:40 am about the incident, and three fire tenders were dispatched immediately. The fire likely originated from a short circuit in the AC system,” Singh explained.
Eyewitness accounts, such as from Surender Bhola, a biker who noticed smoke coming from the bus engine, suggest that the fire might have started in the vehicle’s rear. The driver, upon being alerted, stopped the bus and instructed passengers to disembark quickly, ensuring their safety.
Fire Safety in Buses: Lessons and Preventive Measures
This incident has raised significant concerns about fire safety in buses and the protocols currently in place. The Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System Limited (DIMTS), which manages cluster buses, has initiated an inquiry to determine the exact cause of the fire and to ensure that similar incidents do not occur in the future.
Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot commented, “This bus was only four years old, which is relatively new. We will conduct a thorough investigation to uncover the root cause of the fire. Passenger safety is our top priority, and we will hold those responsible accountable.”
Introducing IGNICOP®: A Revolutionary Fire Safety Monitoring Solution
Many fire accidents are occurring these days due to inadequate fire safety measures and the absence of quick alerts, underscoring the urgent need for advanced fire safety solutions. Introducing IGNICOP®, a revolutionary Fire Safety Monitoring Solution, designed to tackle these challenges head-on.
It is a groundbreaking Early Warning Apparatus and Communication System (EWACS) for various infrastructure settings. This innovative system ensures that fire safety systems are always in optimal condition by continuously monitoring fire alarms and pressure levels. It provides instant alerts in the event of any deviations, significantly reducing the risk velocity of fire hazards and ensuring swift response to potential threats.
How IGNICOP® Works:
- Continuous Monitoring: IGNICOP® ensures the ongoing health monitoring of installed fire safety systems, effectively minimizing risk at all times.
- System Status Tracking: The device monitors fire alarms and pressure levels in real time, providing a comprehensive health assessment.
- Instant Alerts: If any deviation in the fire alarm or pressure levels occurs, IGNICOP® triggers immediate notifications to four stakeholders or first responders through SMS within 5 seconds, followed by phone calls in 10 seconds.
- Dashboard Accessibility: Users can conveniently check the status and monitor multiple sites through the user-friendly Admin Dashboard.
- Central Communication Hub: IGNICOP® acts as a central hub for a robust and scalable fire safety communications system.
