Mumbai Fire Brigade Extinguishes Blaze

Mumbai, India – A fire broke out in a seven-story building in Ghatkopar (East) early on Saturday, resulting in injuries to 13 people, including two minors. The Mumbai Fire Brigade was able to contain the blaze and safely evacuate 90 residents from the building.

Ghatkopar Building Fire Starts in Electrical Duct

The fire began in the electrical wiring of the Shanti Sagar Building in Ramabai Colony around 1:30 a.m. The flames spread quickly, filling the building with smoke.

Residents Trapped, Struggle to Escape

The old building did not have a firefighting system, making it difficult for residents to escape the smoke-filled building. Many were hesitant to leave their homes due to the dense smoke, forcing firefighters to search every room and guide them to the terrace.

Firefighters Contain Blaze, Rescue Residents

The Mumbai Fire Brigade arrived at the scene and immediately took action to control the fire and rescue residents. Despite the congested area and the difficulty in accessing the building, firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze and evacuate all residents safely.

Residents Complain of Delayed Response

However, residents complained that the fire brigade arrived an hour and a half late. Local youths had begun rescuing residents from the first two floors using ladders, while those on the upper floors were guided to the terrace before the fire brigade arrived.

Building Left Without Essential Services

Even several hours after the incident, residents were left without electricity or water in the building. Some residents were forced to stay in nearby mandaps or with relatives.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Mumbai Fire Brigade is working to determine what sparked the blaze and how it spread so quickly.
