Overview of the Kamala Mills Fire Incident
On Friday morning, a major fire broke out at Times Tower in the Kamala Mills area of Lower Parel West, Mumbai. The fire started early, at around 6:29 am, and affected four floors of the 14-story building. Thick black smoke and large flames were seen coming from one side of the building. Fortunately, no one was hurt during the incident
The fire mostly affected the electric wiring and installations between the 7th and 10th floors of the building. It also caused damage to office furniture, important documents, and the building’s exterior, which was covered in acrylic sheets. These materials caught fire quickly, making it more difficult for firefighters to control the blaze.
The Mumbai fire brigade responded quickly, arriving at the scene with five fire engines, seven large water tankers, and ambulances. Firefighters had to work hard to get access to the building. They used tools like chisels and hammers to break the locks on the doors from the second floor all the way up to the 14th floor. This helped them reach the areas that were burning and put out the fire.
It took more than five hours for the firefighters to fully control the blaze. By 10:17 am, the fire was under control, but it wasn’t completely put out until 11:54 am. Local police and staff from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) also helped with the rescue and firefighting operations.
The Kamala Mills fire is a reminder of how important fire safety is, especially in large, multi-story buildings like Times Tower. Regular checks of electric wiring, proper maintenance, and clear fire safety protocols can help prevent such dangerous incidents.
