On Tuesday afternoon, a major fire broke out at the New India Assurance Co. Ltd. office in Pappanamcode, Kerala, about 5 kilometres from the State capital. The fire started around 1:30 p.m., possibly due to an explosion in an air-conditioning unit, and now authorities are investigating if it was caused intentionally.

Identified Victim: Vaishna

Among the deceased, the first victim has been identified as Vaishna, a 34-year-old employee of the insurance company. Vaishna resided with her two children and mother in a rented house at Melamcode, a nearby locality to Pappanamcode. Police reports reveal that Vaishna had been separated from her husband, Binukumar, who had resided in Mottamoodu for nearly four years prior to this incident.

Investigation and Developments

The investigation has taken a dramatic turn as the Nemom police, who have registered a case of unnatural death, faced difficulties in reaching Binukumar, whose phone was found to be switched off. Witnesses reported observing a man creating a disturbance at the insurance office just hours before the fire. Additionally, CCTV footage revealed Binukumar in the vicinity of the office around the time of the incident, further complicating the investigation.

Authorities are now diligently working to confirm the identity of the second victim and determine the precise cause of the fire. The potential for foul play remains a crucial aspect of the ongoing inquiry.
